Pohang is one of the two privately operated centres, opened 2015-01-30 with 포스코 as its 전담 대기업, and the only centre whose 지역 covers two cities: 포항 and 광양. Its published 특화분야 reads 전력, 에너지신산업 — which does not match the POSCO pairing, and we report it as published rather than guessing.

Pohang is the centre where reading the source honestly produces an awkward answer. Publishing the awkward answer is the point of doing it this way.

The dataset gives POSCO as partner, private operation, and two cities. Its specialisation line covers electric power and new energy industries: 전력 ICT, 신재생발전, 전력기자재.

The row we are not going to quietly fix

A power-grid remit reads like the KEPCO centre's, not the steelmaker's. The tempting move swaps in what people associate Pohang with: batteries, materials, steel. Then presents that as fact.

That substitution is exactly the error that produced every other wrong claim in this series. So the published field reads 전력, 에너지신산업, with a 데이터 기준일 of 2026-06-04. Confirming it needs a call to the centre, not a guess from us.

What private operation changes

Both private centres carry the same 민간 marking, and both grew around a single company's industrial base. They still appear in the portal's directory and still run calls.

What changes is the count. KISED's national overview says 17, the portal lists 19, and neither is wrong. They count different things.

KISED's dataset marks two rows 민간 in both the institution name and the region: 포항 and 빛가람. That marking is the entire difference between the 17 figure KISED's overview cites and the 19 the portal lists.
