K-Startup Grand Challenge: KISED's foreign-founder accelerator, and the track it is not

5 min read2 primary sources

K-Startup Grand Challenge (KSGC) is KISED's own accelerator for foreign nationals with a prospective or under-seven-year-old startup, selecting roughly 40 companies with office space, settlement funds, demo-day prize money and D-10-2/D-8-4 visa support. A separate, narrower track on ksgc.global serves teams of enrolled international students already in Korea. KISED's own page still shows an April-May 2025 window, so confirm current dates before applying.

K-Startup Grand Challenge is one accelerator name covering two different KISED programmes. This post covers the flagship track first, then the narrower one.

Who KISED says can apply

KISED's own KSGC page states eligibility plainly: "Foreign nationals with (prospective) startup companies established within seven years." The same page sets scale at "approximately 40 companies" per round.

That eligibility line does not require the applicant to already live in Korea. It covers a founder applying from abroad, provided the company is prospective or under seven years old.

What KISED lists as support

KISED's programme page groups support into named categories. Accelerating covers office space for selected teams and business incubation programmes, including consulting.

Settlement Funds run "during [a] 3.5-month incubation period," in KISED's own phrase. Excellence Team Selection adds prize money, awarded through a demo day for top-performing teams.

Visa Support covers issuance help for startup-related visas, named on the page as D-10-2 and D-8-4. Employment Support adds a Korean intern to help with language and cultural barriers.

Corporate and Labor Affairs support runs as lectures and 1:1 consulting on administrative and corporate procedure. A final category, Other Support, covers inquiries about housing and daily life in Korea.

A retired domain worth naming

A previous KSGC web address, k-startupgc.org, no longer belongs to the programme. As of this post's research, that domain resolves to an unrelated commercial site with no connection to KISED or the accelerator.

Apply only through k-startup.go.kr, the address KISED's own page names for submission, or through ksgc.global for the International Students track. Do not trust a KSGC link from anywhere else without checking it first.

The published procedure and how to apply

KISED lists five steps: programme announcement, application and submission, evaluation and selection, entry support, and programme implementation. It does not publish pass rates or interview details on this page.

Applications run "online application and submission through K-Startup website," in KISED's own words. Required documents are an English application form and an English business plan, both named directly on the page.

KISED's contact line for this programme names its "Global Expansion Team," with a phone number listed for outbound enquiries. The page does not list an email address.

Where the visa support fits the wider system

KISED's page names D-10-2 and D-8-4 issuance support without describing either visa's points or renewal mechanics. The D-10-2 route to D-8-4 post on this site covers that route separately.

KSGC's own page treats the visa step as a support service delivered inside the accelerator. It is not a separate application a participant files on their own.

A second, narrower KSGC track

A separate site, ksgc.global, runs what it calls "KSGC for International Students," described on its own page as "a dedicated growth track within the K-Startup Grand Challenge for teams that include international students in Korea."

Eligibility here is different and stricter. Every team member must be a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student, not on a leave of absence. At least half the team must be international students, and at least one member must be a graduate student or expected to graduate by 2027.

That track verifies eligibility "based on a Certificate of Enrollment," on its own wording. Its most recent round ran from July 13 to August 14, 2026, and had closed by the time this post was researched.

The International Students track selects "up to 20 teams" and runs the residency "in Pangyo and nearby areas," in its own words, over roughly five months from August to December. It states its cost as free for selected teams and its working language as English.

Two K-Startup Grand Challenge tracks: the flagship route for foreign nationals abroad, and the International Students track for teams already enrolled in Korea.

Neither KISED's page nor ksgc.global cross-references the other on the pages fetched for this post. Treat them as two related but separately run programmes rather than one continuous pipeline.

Confirm the current year's flagship dates directly on k-startup.go.kr before applying, since KISED's own page still shows a 2025 window. Browse the programme directory for other rounds that may open sooner.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for the main K-Startup Grand Challenge?

How many companies does the flagship KSGC select?
KISED's page sets scale at approximately 40 companies per round.
Does KSGC offer visa help?
Yes. KISED names D-10-2 and D-8-4 visa issuance support among the accelerator's benefits, without publishing a points value for either.

When does the flagship KSGC application window open?
KISED's own participation guide still listed April-May 2025 on the page fetched for this post; confirm the current year's dates on k-startup.go.kr.

No. That domain no longer belongs to the programme and should not be trusted; apply through k-startup.go.kr or ksgc.global instead.
